Atlantic Goliath Grouper


Live Goliath Grouper [Jewfish; Epinephelus itajara]

This fish, native to shallow tropical waters on both sides of the Atlantic, grows to 98 inches and perhaps 1000 pounds. It occasionally attempts to eat scuba divers. It particularly likes to live in caves and shipwrecks. This fish has been greatly depleted, mainly by sport spear fishing.
