Atlantic Goliath Grouper
Grouper [Jewfish; Epinephelus itajara]

This fish, native to shallow tropical waters on both sides of the Atlantic, grows to 98 inches and perhaps 1000 pounds. It occasionally attempts to eat scuba divers. It particularl, it likes to live in caves and shipwrecks. This fish has been greatly depleted, mainly by sport spear fishing - this fish is critically endangered - do not catch, do not eat, do not inconvenience in any way.   Photo © i0126.

In both US waters and the Caribbean, serious financial penalties are awarded to persons who molest this fish.
