In the home, tortilla presses have pretty much replaced patting out round tortillas between the palms of the hands. The one in the photo is of cast iron, but similar ones are made of aluminum.
Herecy! Ladies of India extraction in North America are now using these presses to make chapatis and other roti. They don't have time to roll out perfectly round chapatis as they are expected to in India, or even time to develop the skill. I don't know if these presses have invaded India yet - but they will.
