A universal Puerto Rican spice mix used for just about anything. Commercial Sazón, especially Goya brand, are primarily MSG to cut costs. This recipe has real ingredients.

Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
-- Ground
Cumin Seed
Coriander Seed
Annatto Seed (1)
Oregano, Dried  
------------
Salt
Pepper, Black

Make:   -   (25 min)
  1. In your Spice Grinder, grind together all Ground items
  2. Mix All Items well.
  3. In a sealed jar away from heat and sunlight, this mix should be good for several months.
NOTES:
  1. Annatto:

      These red seeds are frequently used in Latin American and Native recipes. If Annatto is not available, some recipes suggest Turmeric. Others say Sweet Paprika, or half of each. For details, see our Achiote / Annatto page.
  2. Options:

      Some people include a half teaspoon or more of their Chili Powder of choice. Puerto Rican Cusine is very light on hot chilis, so this is not usually included.
  3. U.S. measure: t=teaspoon, T=Tablespoon, c=cup, qt=quart, oz=ounce, #=pound, cl=clove in=inch, ar=as required tt=to taste
